What is History?

History is the study of past events, especially in human affairs.

It is a way of constructing knowledge about the world through research, interpretation, argument and debate.

Building historical knowledge involves identifying traces of the past that exist in

the present. These traces include people’s memories, documents, photographs, archeological discoveries, and other remains.

Historians analyse the remains of the past and formulate theories of life back then.

The significance of history as a subject stands in how it allows us to observe and understand the behaviour of people and societies, and through this appreciate the change and continuity of the world.
